Knee Pain Treatment in Royal Palm Beach, FL
Knee pain often originates from a biomechanical problem above or below the joint. We find it and correct it.
Knee pain treatment in Royal Palm Beach, FL at Cobblestone Spine and Joint Institute takes a different approach than most patients expect from a chiropractic practice. Chiropractic care for knee pain is not just about the knee itself. The knee is a hinge joint that depends on the hip above it and the ankle below it for its mechanical environment. When the hip is not rotating normally, when the pelvis is not level, or when foot pronation is altering the mechanics of the lower kinetic chain, the knee absorbs compensatory forces it was not designed to handle. That compensation is often the primary driver of knee pain.
Dr. Dean Mammales evaluates knee pain patients with this full-chain perspective. He finds where the mechanical breakdown is actually occurring, treats it at the source, and addresses the knee itself as needed. This approach consistently produces outcomes that knee-focused treatment alone does not.
Common Knee Pain Presentations We Treat
Pain at the front of the knee from abnormal patellar tracking. Usually caused by hip weakness or quadriceps imbalance, not a knee problem.
Lateral knee pain from iliotibial band tension. Almost always a hip and pelvis problem expressed at the knee. Common in runners and cyclists.
Age-related joint degeneration. Chiropractic cannot reverse arthritis but significantly reduces pain and improves mobility by normalizing joint mechanics.
Not all meniscus tears require surgery. Mechanical loading changes through chiropractic and rehabilitation often reduce symptoms from degenerative meniscal tears significantly.
Chronic overload of the patellar tendon from jumping sports or repetitive stair climbing. Responds well to MLS laser therapy combined with load management.
The L3 nerve root refers pain to the medial knee. Many patients with "knee pain" actually have a lumbar disc problem producing referred symptoms.
The Hip-Knee Connection Most Practitioners Miss
A runner who trains along the canal paths off Okeechobee Blvd came to us with chronic right-sided IT band syndrome. She had been through a full course of physical therapy focused on IT band stretching and hip strengthening exercises. She improved during PT and relapsed immediately upon returning to full training mileage.
The examination found a right-sided pelvic rotation pattern that had been creating consistent leg length asymmetry throughout her running gait. Her right leg was effectively shorter through the stance phase, which was increasing the tensile load on the right IT band every time her foot struck the ground. No amount of IT band stretching addresses a pelvic rotation. Once we corrected the pelvic mechanics through specific manipulation and gave her appropriate gluteal stabilization exercises, she returned to full training mileage without recurrence.
Knee Pain in Wellington's Equestrian Community
Knee pain is common among riders, particularly at the medial compartment from years of sustained isometric loading in the seated position. The adductor muscles work constantly during riding to maintain leg position, and this chronic contraction compresses the medial knee structures over time. Wellington equestrians with medial knee pain often have significant adductor trigger points and hip internal rotation restrictions that are contributing to the knee loading pattern. We address both.
MLS Laser for Knee Pain
For inflammatory knee pain including osteoarthritis, bursitis, and tendinopathy, MLS laser therapy delivers a measurable reduction in pain and inflammation. Research on MLS laser for knee osteoarthritis consistently shows significant pain reduction and functional improvement compared to placebo. It works best as part of a complete treatment plan that includes the biomechanical correction described above, not as a standalone intervention.
