Back Pain in Jacksonville, FL

Most people have dealt with back pain at some point. Some are dealing with it right now, every single day, and have been for years. Here is what we know about it and what we can do.

Why Back Pain Happens

Back pain is not a diagnosis. It is a symptom. The spine is a complex structure made up of 24 vertebrae, 23 intervertebral discs, dozens of joints, hundreds of ligaments, and a nervous system running through the middle of all of it. When any part of that system gets overloaded, compressed, misaligned, or inflamed, your brain gets a pain signal. The challenge is figuring out exactly where that signal is coming from.

The most common sources of back pain we see at Full Swing Healthcare are facet joint dysfunction, disc herniations or bulges, sacroiliac joint irritation, muscle guarding from an underlying structural problem, and poor movement mechanics that have been loading the spine unevenly over time. Sometimes it is a combination of several of these at once.

Most people who come to us have been living with back pain long enough that they have adjusted their whole life around it. They stopped going to the gym. They get out of the car slowly. They avoid sitting on certain chairs. That adaptation process actually makes things worse over time because the compensation patterns create new dysfunctions on top of the original problem.

How We Treat Back Pain at Full Swing Healthcare

Dr. Muren starts with a full orthopedic and neurological assessment. He needs to know what is actually causing the pain before he touches anything. Is the problem mechanical, meaning joints and alignment? Is there a disc component? Is there muscle imbalance that is perpetuating the structural breakdown? The treatment changes depending on the answer and treating the wrong thing just wastes everyone's time.

Chiropractic Adjustments

Spinal adjustments restore proper motion to restricted vertebral segments and reduce the nerve irritation that comes from compressed or misaligned joints. Dr. Muren is trained in Gonstead, Diversified, Activator, and Thompson drop table technique. The method he uses depends on the location of the problem and what your body responds best to. Most patients feel relief on the table. Learn about our chiropractic approach here.

Soft Tissue Therapy

Tight paraspinal muscles and fascial restrictions keep pulling the spine back into dysfunction even after a good adjustment. We address those with myofascial cupping, IASTM scraping, and therapeutic massage. Loosening the tissue that surrounds the problem makes every adjustment hold longer.

StemWave Shockwave Therapy

For back pain with a chronic soft tissue component, disc-related inflammation, or cases that haven't responded to adjustments and massage alone, we add StemWave shockwave therapy. The acoustic waves trigger a cellular healing response in damaged tissue that passive treatment cannot produce.

Rehabilitation

Adjustments fix alignment. Rehab fixes the movement pattern that caused the misalignment in the first place. We use the rehabilitation space at Full Swing Healthcare to give patients specific exercises that stabilize the lumbar spine and retrain proper movement so the problem does not keep coming back.

What to Expect at Your First Visit

Plan for 45 to 60 minutes. We take a full health history and run orthopedic tests to identify the source of your pain. If you have X-rays or MRI results, bring them and we'll review them with you. Most patients get their first adjustment at the end of that initial visit and walk out feeling something has changed.

Dr. Muren will give you a realistic treatment plan with a specific timeline at your first appointment. Acute back pain often resolves in four to eight visits. Chronic pain that has been building for years takes longer. Either way, you will know what to expect before you commit to anything.

Full Swing Healthcare accepts Florida Blue, United Healthcare, Humana, Cigna, Florida Medicaid, and VA benefits. Self-pay rates are $125 for your first visit and $65 for follow-up adjustments. Call (904) 539-3352 or book online here.
